This will be the last post (with party poppers instead of bugles) for 2010.
The office will be closed from Monday December 20 and we'll be back on deck on Wednesday January 5. If you make bookings for courses over this time they'll be waiting for us to process when we get back ... the eftpos machine is usually running hot on that first day! So, if you haven't picked up your artwork you'll need to do so this week!
Just a reminder that there's a new exhibition - 21st Century: The First Decade opening at Goma next week -end & continuing until April 2011. For more info go to their website

Scaffolding
Scaffolding also reminds me of the black & white photographs of the German photographers - Bern & Hiller Becher.
Teleskop Gasbehalter, Schoneberg, 1992
To create these works, the Bechers travelled to large mines and steel mills, and photographed the major structures. I find the drawing quality of these photographs quite compelling. If you're interested in finding out more about these photogaphers here is a link to an exhibition they had at Moma in New York, in 2008. Moma Exhibition

Urban Mine 2010 - call for materials
The Brisbane Institute of Art Jewellery Studio will be hosting a workshop in late October based on the theme “URBAN MINE”. This workshop will focus on the recycling of unwanted materials such as plastics, jewellery, aluminium pots and pans, rubber, wire, computer components, material and more!
The workshop will culminate in an exhibition in early November where jewellery created in the workshop will be for sale to raise funds for the studio.
We are calling for the BIA community and greater public to donate some of their unwanted clutter to help us in our efforts to create awareness of recycling. By using the urban mine as a source of materials we will be lowering our impact as jewellers on the environment. So dig around in those draws and cupboards and donate today!!!
Items to be donated can be dropped off to the studio or office. To arrange your donation contact Dan Cox on 0409 226 083 or at dancoxart@optusnet.com.au .
