'Pace' is the name given to this QLD Govt funded project comprising several exhibitions - curated by Jill Barker.
The first of these exhibitions, called 'Drawling', is currently showing in the gallery NONA until Friday 1 April.
'PACE' exhibitions project: pace-at-bia blog, this link

Jill has selected 6 artists, whose work ranges from porcelain vessels (Peter Biddulph),
to large scale photographs, (Phoebe McDonald), (Kylie Jury),
Isometric drawings (Richard Stride),
Drawing/Installation (Judith Kentish)
Collaborative video work (Sandra Selig).

Jill has scheduled some Q&A sessions on Wednesdays & Thursdays at lunchtime while the exhibition is up :

(all 12:30pm - 1pm)
Wed March 16 - curator Jill Barker
Thurs March 17 - Phoebe McDonald
Wed March 23- Richard Stride
Thurs March 24 - Judith Kentish
Wed Mar 30 - Kylie Jury
Thurs Mar 31 - Peter Biddulph

The Q&A sessions are planned for these times because this is when the most people are at BIA for classes. So if you have a morning class on either of those days, please think about staying on afterwards for half an hour, and you may want to come to a talk before your afternoon class. Or you may want to come to ask a question even though you aren't usually at BIA on those days.
Each talk will be held in the gallery.

In addition, there will be an evening lecture on Australian Art by Dr Mark Pennings on Thursday 24 March @ 7pm at BIA to help contextualize the artworks, and there is no restriction on numbers for this lecture.

Tasmania 1:100,000 Mapping the Island

Penny Carey-Wells and Diane Perndt curated Tasmania 1:100,000 Mapping the Island exhibition for the Ten Days on the Island Festival 2009, that is the leading biannual arts event in Tasmania, Australia.  Wim de Vos, our printmaking tutor is included in this exhibition
Selected national and international artists, including poets, chefs, wine makers, dancers, musicians,  papermakers, printmakers and mixed media visual artists, received a section taken from a topographical map of Tasmania. They were asked to create a two-dimensional paper based response measuring 29 x 29 cm square. Over 140 extraordinary works were received - each piece telling its own story from the deeply personal, to the wonderfully witty and the aesthetically masterful.
From the original exhibition the curators have selected nearly of half the works for further touring.  Most of these are now housed in individual perspex display boxes suitable for a multitude of venues. The tour begins in Burnie Regional Art Gallery opening on 28 January 2011 after which it will travel to other Tasmania regional centres.
Look closely - enjoy the humour, find the bizarre, search for the wayward and discover the wonderful.

" CathARTic Flood Charity Art Auction #2 "

was such a success (raising over $4000) for flood relief, that organiser Marcus Lavers is hosting a second event.

"CathARTic 2" will be held at the London Offices, Teneriffe on Saturday March 26 with bump in on 22 March.

If selected, artists need to deliver works to the space on the morning of the 22 March.  There will be a live auction and a silent auction, and Marcus has enlisted a passionate professional auctioneer, aiming to shift works.  The auction is "no starting bid" and "no reserve".  Cost to the artist is simply a 33% commission on sales.

These events are designed to sell all the art, they are highly marketed in a targeted fashion, and are enjoyable evenings with music and wine.  "CathARTic 2" is a fantastic and affordable opportunity to exhibit work whilst supporting flood victims.
